The National Strat-O-Matic Hockey League Newsletter League Established May 1, 1997 Volume #7, Issue #17 - April 23, 2003 ************************************************************************** Current League Officers: Commissioner: Doug Norris (303-492-3493) Vice-Commissioner: Eric Goodman Email List Administator: Steve Kramer Email the whole league: mailto:nshl@thalia.org NSHL Chat List: mailto:nshlchat@thalia.org Web Page Administrator: Brian Leahy League Web Site: http://www.geocities.com/nshlweb ************************************************************************** JUST A NOTE: Week 27 begins now, and concludes NEXT MONDAY (that's April 28). You have this week to play two home games (and two road games) in this, the final week of the regular season. If you think you're going to run into problems, please don't play your games at the last minute. If you're going to wait until the last minute anyhow, then consider the deadline to be Sunday. :-P ************************************************************************** WEEK TWENTY-FIVE/TWENTY-SIX IN REVIEW: The defending Farley Cup champion Buffalo Bulldogs, who have silently languished behind Long Island all season, began their final push over the past two weeks, going 5-1-0 to pull within five points of the Berserkers for the league's overall top spot. The Lyndonville Blades also went 5-1-0 over the biweek, setting up an interesting final week in the Northeast Division. In the Northwest, the Seattle Rainiers once again moved ahead of Drayton Valley in the turtle race for the divison title. A mere five points separate first from fifth in this division, and it's interesting to note that nary a single team has officially qualified for the Farley Cup round, as the Seattle Sasquatch can still sneak in from the ninth position. Stay tuned for the final four games of the season, and all of the hot playoff-positioning action! ************************************************************************** CURRENT LEAGUE STANDINGS: NORTHEAST DIVISION GP W L T OL Pts Pct GF GA Home Road x-Long Island Berserke 78 52 18 7 1 112 0.718 274 189 26- 7- 5- 1 26-11- 2- 0 x-Buffalo Bulldogs 78 50 21 6 1 107 0.686 264 179 25-10- 3- 1 25-11- 3- 0 x-Lyndonville Blades 78 45 20 10 3 103 0.660 296 205 24- 9- 5- 1 21-11- 5- 2 x-Corner Creek Green C 78 42 27 7 2 93 0.596 253 228 27- 9- 3- 0 15-18- 4- 2 Brooklyn Gulag 78 25 32 15 6 71 0.455 186 230 14-15- 6- 4 11-17- 9- 2 New York Lancers 78 13 64 0 1 27 0.173 129 280 9-29- 0- 1 4-35- 0- 0 ATLANTIC DIVISION GP W L T OL Pts Pct GF GA Home Road y-Montreal Wanderers 78 45 16 13 4 107 0.686 237 170 20-11- 6- 2 25- 5- 7- 2 x-Quebec City Patriote 78 40 26 8 4 92 0.590 223 193 22-10- 4- 3 18-16- 4- 1 x-Florida Hellcats 78 37 28 9 4 87 0.558 247 213 21-16- 2- 0 16-12- 7- 4 x-St. Michael's Privat 78 34 26 12 6 86 0.551 212 207 16-12- 9- 2 18-14- 3- 4 Manayunk Bullies 78 30 33 13 2 75 0.481 197 204 17-16- 5- 1 13-17- 8- 1 Greensboro Gunners 78 15 46 13 4 47 0.301 145 246 11-21- 6- 1 4-25- 7- 3 NORTHWEST DIVISION GP W L T OL Pts Pct GF GA Home Road Seattle Rainiers 78 38 33 6 1 83 0.532 201 218 21-15- 3- 0 17-18- 3- 1 Drayton Valley Driller 78 35 31 9 3 82 0.526 244 241 14-17- 6- 2 21-14- 3- 1 Fort Garry Fiddler Cra 78 36 34 7 1 80 0.513 231 226 20-14- 4- 1 16-20- 3- 0 Toms River Lightning 78 36 34 5 3 80 0.513 255 241 20-15- 2- 2 16-19- 3- 1 Seattle Sasquatch 78 33 33 8 4 78 0.500 220 229 19-15- 3- 2 14-18- 5- 2 Vancouver Whitecaps 78 8 61 5 4 25 0.160 132 319 5-28- 3- 3 3-33- 2- 1 CENTRAL DIVISION GP W L T OL Pts Pct GF GA Home Road y-Topeka Scarecrows 78 52 21 5 0 109 0.699 280 183 26- 9- 4- 0 26-12- 1- 0 x-Toronto Arenas 78 38 29 9 2 87 0.558 244 220 20-13- 4- 2 18-16- 5- 0 x-Houston Outlaws 78 41 33 3 1 86 0.551 260 227 18-19- 1- 1 23-14- 2- 0 x-San Francisco Hedgeh 78 39 31 7 1 86 0.551 238 238 21-13- 5- 0 18-18- 2- 1 Capital City Cougars 78 30 41 6 1 67 0.429 244 268 19-16- 3- 1 11-25- 3- 0 Hampton Roads Hounds 78 27 40 7 4 65 0.417 210 268 14-18- 3- 4 13-22- 4- 0 x - With the 'Squatch holding onto their playoff lives by the skin of their teeth (teeth have skin?), Bonk played a key role in the club's 5-1-0 record in Week 25/26, including a key home-and-home sweep of the crosstown Rainiers. In total, Bonk had four goals and nine assists, and was a plus-nine in Seattle's six games, eking past Topeka's Tommy Salo (road shutouts at Houston and Hampton Roads), Lyndonville's Joe Nieuwendyk (six goals, four assists, +5) and Manayunk's Radim Vrbata (six goals and three assists) for the award. ************************************************************************** NORRIS POWER INDEX: Home-Ice Advantage is currently estimated at: +0.134 goals ## TEAM P-RATE LW 1.
